Personal Statement"We delight in the beauty of a butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty." -Maya Angelou
This quote holds importance to Claire's in that she believes everyone has their own story to tell. Like butterflies, people go through many changes along their course of life. Events, both good and bad, shape us to be who we are and impact the choices we make. Claire thinks that this quote can (and should) be applicable when interacting with others. By first glance, you see the things that people want to project. But behind that initial image is a deep history of the journey they've gone through to get to that point. Keeping an open perspective on life allows you too see things for how they truly are, not just what you see from the outside. |
Claire Morris is a junior at Ripon High School. She is involved in her school's leadership program and holds the position of Junior Class President this year. Her job is to represent the class and assist the rest of her team in planning events for the student body. She has past experience in her school’s leadership program after being a Freshman Representative and Sophomore Class President. Claire enjoys leadership because she gets to create new connections with her peers and learn skills in professional development that will help her throughout life. She wants to lead her class with positivity and encourage them to be their truest selves. Outside of leadership, Claire is also involved in the Link Crew program and is a Sober Grad Ambassador at her school. She believes that being involved in activities and programs allows you to meet others and give back to your peers. Claire enjoys Link Crew because she wants to make incoming students feel welcome and comfortable on campus. While this is her first year being a Sober Grad Ambassador, Claire is excited to be an advocate for safety and sobriety among the student body. With her love for learning and academics she is especially interested in the Psychology and AP Language courses she’s enrolled in this year. When not in school, some of Claire’s favorite hobbies include reading, art, and listening to music. She’s always in the mood for a Barnes and Noble run and firmly believes that a good Spotify playlist can solve anything. Claire is also extremely passionate about spreading Mental Health awareness. Because of this, she has recently joined the Youth Mental Health Development Academy and co-wrote an article about the program for the CADA newsletter. Claire is excited to be apart of something bigger than herself and feels grateful to be able to educate herself and others about the importance of Mental Health in schools. Her goals for the future are to pursue a career in Investigative Journalism or Graphic Design and to continue traveling. As for this school year, Claire hopes to maintain an efficient work ethic and gain a better perspective on herself and how to lead with intention.
