ASB Report August 2021
Freshman Class Representative Position Assessment: For leadership this year we've done a lot of work on our class tee-shirts. We designed the shirt, decorated and publicized for our sales, then finally sold the tee-shirts at Club Rush and Pow Wow. The events went very well and it was great being able to bond with everyone in our leadership class and learn how to better work together. I also was in charge of filling out the procedure form, purchase order, and cash box request form. It was good to fill it out for the first time and learn the ropes of what to do, It kept me updated with the event and gave me the opportunity to talk to upperclassmen. Standing Committee: The committee I'm apart of is the balloon arch committee. For events we decorate and build the balloon arches in front or around the school. We haven't decorated for any events this year but we're scheduled to for the Back To School Dance in September. Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor for this year is Mackenzie Loechler. From the minute we met at Core Camp she was super friendly and welcoming! I was so excited to be able to have her as my mentor for the rest of this year. She's helped me fill out procedure forms and the purchase orders. For some extra time to bond we've planned to go on lunches. I'm happy to have someone who motivates not only me, but everyone around her to be confident. Concerns: My only concern would be everyone getting out their opinion. In our freshman team, one of my goals is to make sure everyone has a say in what we do as a team and that they can all share their own concerns. I want this group to be a space where everyone feels safe to share their ideas and views on what we discuss and plan. Positive Comment: My positive comment is for Sofia Grewal. She's always super positive and always willing to help whenever and wherever it's needed. She's super talented with making posts and decorating, I always know I can ask her for any help or advice and I'm so glad I have someone I can go to for not only leadership help, but help in general! Change: One change I would like to see is more participation options for the freshmen. Although we help with small parts of events I would like to be able to prove how hard we can work! My Impact: My impact thus far has been taking charge in things for events. From doing lots of the paper work for the tee shirt sales I got more information on how to prep for future events. It gave me a chance to organize and go through the step by step process of the events we've had so far, It's made me realize the work that goes into every activity we plan. It had an impact on our group because it's a very important part of planning our events and it takes a lot of time and effort. ASB Report September/October 2021
Freshman Class Representative Position Assessment: Since the last ASB report a lot of events have happened. The Back To School Dance was the first to start it all off. I was on the balloon arch committee so I got to help create the really cute decoration! It also gave me a chance to bond with Kylee and Naomi which was great. It was so much fun and we had a great turn out, plenty of people stayed after to clean up and that was really helpful. After that, came Homecoming week. I was in the Coronation Committee so I helped with the candidate rally which was cool to be a part of! This was the freshmen's first time having and participating in Homecoming so it came as a bit of a shock when we saw all the activities lined up. First, being the Lip Sync Battle. The Freshman's theme for Disneylands was Hollywood Boulevard so we chose to dance to Party in the USA, by Miley Cyrus. It was a little hectic choreographing and teaching those who wanted to participate in the lip sync, but nonetheless we did it! After that was the poster competition. I had some of the freshmen reps over to my house to help make our poster and it took us six hours! But all the hard work was worth it, we got second place and it looked amazing! The next activity was the window decoration. We reused some of our props from the poster and added new elements from our order that came in with a lot more supplies. We showed up early to help make the window look nice and ended up getting third place! Last and most importantly, was the parade. The freshmen reps got together twice to help create Willie's Steamboat. It took a lot of sweat, tears, and cardboard. We worked until twelve the night before the parade but got it done! Then we needed to get to the school early to help decorate for the game happening later. At the end of our school day, the reps rushed over to the church where the floats were being kept, only to find we didn't have all of our supplies and some of our props broke! But, like we had done time and time again, we made it work and completed our first Homecoming week! Overall, it was a really great learning experience and a lot of fun. I loved getting to spend time with the freshmen representatives and found myself bonding with them a lot. Those long nights and days grew us closer together and made for such a good experience. There are definitely lessons to use for next year. We got a late start on pretty much everything and had to use all the time and resources we had on hand. It would've gone a lot better if we were more prepared and started earlier, but it made for some funny memories! During all of the Homecoming craziness, I was also participating in Powderpuff! Even though the freshmen and seniors lost I had a great time and met some new people I connected with. And now, we're a couple days away from the Halloween Dance. This the freshman reps were prepared for. We have our decorations and all the planning done, now we just have to wait for the big day! I'm really proud of all we've accomplished and couldn't ask for a better group of people to do it with. Standing/Special Committee: The committee I'm apart of is the balloon arch committee. For the BTS Dance I worked with Naomi and Kylee to help create my first balloon arch. It turned out great and was super fun to be there with them to help. I was also in the Coronation Committee for Homecoming. For this, I was able to be in the candidate rally. I helped with set up and seating signs. Although I couldn't help with everything due to Powderpuff, it was still fun to do what I could! I really liked being involved with that as a freshman. Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor for this year is Mackenzie Loechler. We've gone to lunches together and she always helps me whenever I ask for it! I feel like I'm able to be myself around her and she gives great advice. It's so nice having someone older who can talk me through my worries and make me feel more confident. Concerns: After having several events I've been able to observe how the freshmen representatives work together as a team. Although we've done a great job, I've noticed some lack of effort. It was a bit frustrating when the same few people were giving it their all and making sure to come to help as much as they could, while others weren't making it a priority. I think for a team to work efficiently it's important for work to be spread evenly and I felt that wasn't happening. Hopefully next event, we can put in more of an effort to make sure the jobs are more balanced. Positive Comment: My positive comment is for Kylee Brown. Even with all the stress of Homecoming week, she never hesitated to help me and remind me to get things done. Being a freshman, there were some points where I wasn't sure what to do or what route to take, but she always jumped in to aid me and give me guidance. She reassured me that we would do a good job and that it's okay to make mistakes! She did all this while also having her own classes projects to help with so I can't thank her enough for all that she did. Change: One change I would like to see is like I previously said, with people doing their part. I think for the future, the freshman representatives can get a head start on the work that needs to be done. This way, we have time to plan who's going to be assigned what job and everyone can really understand what they need to partake in. We can fairly delegate jobs and that way nobody will be doing too much or too little. My Impact: I really tried my hardest to help as much as I could with everything that needed to be handled. I hosted the poster decoration at my house as well as the lip sync choreographing and was able to make it to every single event and preparation meeting we had. I also filled out the purchase order and announcement form for Homecoming. I loved being able to see the work I did help the entire group and make the process better. It took a lot of dedication, but I really enjoyed it and being a part of this made me love the leadership program even more. ASB Report November/December 2021
Freshman Class Representative Position Assessment: Altogether the freshman reps haven't been doing many events recently. Last ASB report, we were just getting ready for the Halloween Dance. For a small debrief, that went well and we made a good profit! As for right now, we've already started planning the staff basketball game and had a meeting about it with Mr. Perez. We also ordered some supplies for Winterfest in January which is good that we're staying on top of preparations. With it currently being December, we're in the middle of Warm and Fuzzy week and have done some holiday decorating. Leadership did door wrapping and decorated the teachers doors with personalized bows, then just today was the class/club tree competition. The freshman went with a classic red and green theme since some of our decorations didn't get to us on time (despite us ordering it early!) Even with that little hiccup, it ended up looking really cute and cohesive. As for individually, we've been working on our resumes and cover letters for upcoming mock interviews. As well as those, we're in the middle of our final and secret santa! I'm excited for the finish of this year. Standing/Special Committee: The committee I'm apart of is the balloon arch committee. We haven't done any arches since the Halloween dance. Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor for this year is Mackenzie Loechler. An activity we did together was the Girls League scavenger hunt which was really fun. We've had some good conversations and she is always there for me when I need someone to talk to. Concerns: My main concern would just be just making sure everyone does their part and shows up when they need to. Full participation is really important when it comes to having an efficient process of doing things and a quality outcome. Positive Comment: My positive comment is for Spencer Redula. Spencer is always a hard worker, but especially during these past few months. He puts so much effort into everything he does and make sure it's done well. He's always there to talk to me and help me with any leadership assignments or just my problems in general. I admire his work ethic and the drive he has to accomplish big things and hope one day to be as focused and determined as he is! Change: I honestly don't have a specific change I would like to see. The upperclassmen have been super nice and welcoming, our team hasn't had much to work on recently together, and things have been going very well! My Impact: My impact these past couple months has been supporting our team and taking the lead on certain events. I helped a lot with the Halloween dance, helped where I could with the CASL report, did the door wrapping with my team, put in the PO and picked up the supplies for the holiday tree as well as doing the procedure form for that. I overall just helped wherever I could and lent a hand. ASB Report January 2022
Freshman Class Representative Position Assessment: In the month of January, the freshman representatives worked on Winterfest, public speaking, and prepared for the staff basketball game. Starting with Winterfest, we competed in the pillar, poster. window, and shopping cart decorations. All the decorations were done at my house over the weekend and briefly in the week which was a lot of fun! I always enjoy spending time with the rest of the freshmen and getting to know them while creating our decorations. The thing that took the most effort was the shopping cart since we had a limited group on that. But despite the number of people, it looked great and ended up getting third place. Overall, we got fourth place and we did a good job! On the Friday of Winterfest I helped to get the gym ready for the coronation and putting together the balloon arch. As for public speaking, the topic I was given was Birkenstocks. I was stumped on how to make it creative, but decided to do a persuasive take on why the shoes would be the ideal friend. It went relatively well and I'm a little more comfortable speaking in front of a class. And last, the freshmen representatives prepped for the staff basketball game. That will be in April so we wanted to get a head start on the planning and getting assistance from Mr. Perez. Elections for next year have also started, I'll be running for the sophomore class president which is exciting. I'm looking forward to what's to come in the future months. Standing/Special Committee: The committee I'm apart of is the balloon arch committee. In January, we put together a balloon arch for the winterfest coronation. It looked really nice and was placed over the shopping carts display. Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor for this year is Mackenzie Loechler. We've been going to lunch and have talked a lot about this years leadership elections. We've connected a lot since we're both running for presidency positions. I look up to her a lot in her confidence and ambition. She works very hard in what she wants and always sets goals to achieve. Concerns: My main concern would just be just making sure everyone does their part and shows up when they need to. Full participation is really important when it comes to having an efficient process of doing things and a quality outcome. Positive Comment: My positive comment is for Lucia Perez. She's a sophomore and a spirit commissioner. After sitting at the same table and both being in track, I've gotten the chance to be around her more. She's such a positive person and her happy energy is contagious! She can make anybody laugh and really lights up a room. I look up to her for her attitude and spirit. Change: This isn't really something that can be changed by leadership as a whole, but I think sports and managing priorities can be an issue. Commitment is really important in this program and it's not always a good situation when there's a couple main people putting it as a priority and the rest don't care as much. Even if someone can't be there to help at a certain event, they could self advocate and offer assistance in something else, and be grateful for the work that was done without them there. My Impact: My impact these past couple months has been offering a space for the freshman representatives to work on projects for Winterfest and transferring the displays to where they need to go. I was happy to provide somewhere that we could work and it even helped me to know where everything was and the progress we had made. ASB Report February/March 2022
Freshman Class Representative Position Assessment: February and March have carried a lot of responsibilities! There have been many individual projects like mock interviews and the A-Z mentor book and group projects like the challenge, as well as the freshman representatives current task, the staff vs. student basketball game. As for the interviews, I've been preparing for my meeting coming up in April. I'll be doing it with a journalist who works with ABC news so I'm quite excited. The A-Z mentor book was another individual project we did and I thought it was a really special way to complete the mentorship. I enjoyed giving back to my mentor after all she's helped me with. I think it's a great way to remember the bond we shared this year. In the challenge, my group and I had the task of getting together decorations for the end of the year dance. I handled picking out and ordering everything and my group helped me with organizing the slide presentation we needed to do. And currently, the freshmen are working on putting together the staff vs. student basketball game. It's going well, we have the main things we need in order but we're still grouping together players and trying to figure out how to fill teams. We have time so I think we'll be able to make this a really great event. Standing/Special Committee: The committee I'm apart of is the balloon arch committee. In February/March we didn' t do much, but there will be some to put together for this coming April and May. Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor for this year is Mackenzie Loechler. We've been talking and listening to each other recently and growing a good bond together. I appreciate all the help and advice that she's able to provide me with. I always find comfort in talking to her and know I can go to her any time I need something. We also did the A-Z mentor project, I think I enjoyed making hers just as much as I enjoyed reading my own! Concerns: Regarding the overall class I don't have many concerns right now. We've done a lot to prepare for the upcoming months and everyone has been doing their part! It's great to see us working together smoothly and keeping organized through all the craziness of the end of the year. Positive Comment: My positive comment is for Jenna Skavdahl. I've always looked up to Jenna for her amazing work ethic and her determination. It seems she can do just about anything she puts her mind to. She's a sophomore and handles renaissance and link crew which is a big job to take on. She balances her academic life, sports life, and leadership life really well. She's one of the kindest people I know and I strive to have the organization and strength she has. Change: I think a consistent change I would want to make with the freshman class specifically is just our participation. Through every event we've planned there's always a handful of people taking care of the work and then the other half who doesn't have much knowledge of what's going on. It can be frustrating to know that while some are stressed out and busy, others are relaxed with no responsibility. But this not only comes as a fault to those not working, but to the ones who are letting it happen without solution. I think all of us could do some work in this aspect of our team. My Impact: My impact these past two months has been to help my overall class, help the freshman, and give back to my mentor. I feel recently a big part of my life has been committed to being there for others and doing whatever needs to be done to provide help! With everything that has been going on recently I'm happy to support our class where we need it. ASB Report April/May 2022
Freshman Class Representative Position Assessment: It's crazy that we've already reached the end of the year! These last couple months have been packed with a lot to do but it's been exciting. In April I had my mock interview and it went really well! It was a great experience and I got to get some great insight on going into journalism. The freshmen completed the Staff Vs. Student basketball game. Although a little challenging, we were able to put on a great event! It was a good opportunity for us to see how to work together on our own. May has been an especially busy month. We had The Challenge project to work on and learned a lot from doing it. Overall, I think that it was pretty successful. My group was in charge of getting decorations together for the End Of The Year Dance. It went smoothly, everything we needed came ahead of time and putting it together didn't take long at all. For The Challenge, the freshmen were also able to help out the seniors with their wall of stars. We finished our website portfolios in May which felt very satisfying. It was cool to get to wrap up all the hard work I've put into my website and I was happy to see my progress documented. We had our end of the year leadership banquet. I had the job of presenting the speech and gift to our advisor, Mr. Perez. I feel so grateful that he was our advisor this year, he truly helped us in reaching our fullest potential and having a fun time. I have to say I'm pretty sad about this year in leadership coming to an end. The program has had such a positive impact on my life, I'm really looking forward to what next year has in store! Standing/Special Committee: The committee I'm apart of is the balloon arch committee. In April/May there were two balloon arches made. One was for the Tribe Awards, and unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the making of this one. The last balloon arch we made this year was for the senior's college reveal. It's been so much fun getting to be a part of this committee and I'll be excited to continue it next year. Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor for this year is Mackenzie Loechler. With our time together coming to an end, I can say I'm so grateful we were paired together. Being a freshman coming into this program was scary, but she reassured me every single step of the way. Constantly asking if I needed help or guidance, providing me with advice, and becoming one of my biggest role models. I can't thank her enough for all that she has done for me and am so happy that I still have next year left to spend with her. Concerns: My concern would be with the bond of our class. Being in this program I've developed so many close friendships but I still feel that our class as a whole isn't as connected as it could be. Within the class, many people have their groups that they tend to stick to. While there isn't anything wrong with that, I still wish that we would have more opportunities to get to know those we're working with. I feel it would improve the environment of the class. Positive Comment: My positive comment is for April Yan. This entire year April has worked tirelessly to make sure that she not only exceeds the expectations of her own position, but also helps other people with their needs. It's so amazing to see the kindness that she provides reach other people and how her smiles, snacks, and hugs can brighten the day of everyone around her. She works to be great at what she does and genuinely cares about the wellness of other people. I'm lucky to have her as a friend and so proud of how far she has come and will continue to thrive. Change: I change that I would like to see has to do with my concern. For next year I hope the class has more of a chance to bond together and we can improve our connection. One of the most important aspects of being in a team is how well you know each other, and I think we could have a lot of fun and work together better if we truly got to know one another. My Impact: My impact these past two months has been staying true to my commitments and aiding the class in any way possible. For the freshmen specifically I handled our advisors gift for the end of the year banquet and planned out the speech. For the class as a whole I organized decorations for the dance and gave us some direction on how to position everything the day of. I was there when I was needed and really tried to help those in need of some extra assistance. |
