I Am, by Claire Morris
I am from the little green mixer, blending three sisters together- Lauren, the leader, and Olivia, the peacemaker From the worn deck of "Uno" and the Beanie Baby Box I am from the tan house at the end of the court, the one that looks a little different from the rest, the one that used to have three noble little protectors I am from the olive trees that dropped their fruit in the fall, whose branches struck my father I am from the Jeep commander and the pans that reside in the bottom oven From John Morris, or Mauricio to his father, From Jennifer Strother, or Ruse to her mother I am from brave women and clean manitas, and from loud music, from late car rides home I am from Catechism on Wednesday nights I am from Victoria and Carmen From the smell of fried tortillas and late night cookies From the memories of my mother and her cousins and from adventures spent alongside my father I am from my grandma's house on Wildflower court From the moments I wish I could return to so often I am from passion and from love. |
