ASB Formal Report
Position Assessment: It has been a busy welcome back to the school year! In the summer I attended the leadership Core Camp program which was a really fun experience and great for getting ideas that my team and I can use during the school year. I got to meet people from different schools and of different ages which gave me perspective on the things we do here at RHS. I really valued and enjoyed the lessons I learned and memories I got to make with this year’s class. Once we got back to school, there was a rush into t-shirt sales! Over this summer I met with the sophomore class officer team and we designed the shirts and went over paperwork regarding the design. We sold a decent amount of shirts at both registration and Club Rush to the class and have our files turned in already so we’ll be prepared when they come in! For club rush I helped working shifts to sell our class shirts as well as helped with ASB’s merchandise sale. Around this time, we also had the black light rally to promote the club rush week. The sophomores found models to promote our class color green and multicultural day for the fashion show. It all went well and we got a good amount of participation from our class. We assisted with setting up and cleaning the neon back to school dance. Now we’re just prepping for upcoming events like Homecoming and getting a head start on Winter Formal! We have some great ideas organized for both events and are actively working on making sure everything is accounted for. I'm excited to see what my class and I come up with for these next few events!
Standing/Special Committee: A standing committee that I’m in is the balloon arch committee. There have been two arches made so far in the school year. The first was for the black light rally and unfortunately I was out sick so I couldn’t help with that one. The second was for the neon dance and I was there to assist in the making of it. I was not in any special committees since I was already involved with balloon arch.
Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor for this year is the one and only, April Yan! I’ve had such a great time with her so far into the school year. She’s someone I’m very comfortable around so I know that I can always look to her for guidance in the class. It’s especially helpful since we hold the same job position so we see where one another is coming from. She’s such a great person to be around and has a contagious good energy. I’m excited to see how our mentorship progresses moving forward!
Concerns: The biggest concern I have right now in leadership would just be making sure that my class is on task and updated with the things we have going on. I think since we’re all great friends this year it’s easy to get a little distracted and miss some important information and class discussion. I think that knowing when to focus is something very important in the leadership class environment and something that we may have to work on.
Positive Comment: My positive comment so far would be for my honorary mentor, Mak! With all the craziness of back to school going on I think she’s done an amazing job of staying focused. She holds an important position as ASB president and along with that, has her own classes and sports to worry about so I think it’s extremely admirable how dedicated of a person she is. I can feel she’s going to continue doing a great job as president this year and will lead our class very well!
Change: Something I’d like to change would just be regarding boundaries. I think that recently I’ve noticed a common pattern amongst the class of people having issues with knowing their role and either not sticking to their commitments or overstepping. It’s a problem that is very important within our class because it affects not only how well we work together, but also the social environment within the program. It’s something that can only be resolved by communication and I think we can get there, the conscious effort just needs to be made.
My Impact: My impact within the program recently has just been with trying to be a good leader for my class! I’ve taken part in helping those who are new to the program learn the ropes and assist them in things like portfolios or paperwork. I’ve done organizing regarding important events and communicated with my class officers and our advisor. Overall for this month, I’ve just been really working hard in making sure my class is up to date as well as making sure they know that I am here to assist them in any way they could need me!

ASB Formal Report
Position Assessment: That’s a wrap on Homecoming! Right as Club Rush ended, prep and planning for HOCO began. Organizing and scheduling are two of the most crucial aspects of putting together a good event so the officer team and myself had to get work on that right away. We discussed ideas on spirit wear, competition decor, and the overall result of what we wanted the week to look like. To outline our tasks and what needed to be done, I made sure my class had a shared Google Doc where I lay out every aspect of whatever event we’re putting on and how to make it happen. A few of the sophomores went to Morty’s house to build the Lemonade Stands for the week which was a pretty long day. Along with the class preparations that needed to be done, I was also in charge of putting together a group of ten escorts for the candidate rally and four people to walk in the fashion show. I made sure to do this in advance to avoid chaos and made sure every participant knew dates, times, and what to wear. We sent out forms asking our sophomore student body to help build the float and participate in the Night Rally lip sync. While there wasn’t a huge amount of volunteers, we got many more than we did last year which was reassuring. With this in order we were able to schedule practice dates for the dance and decoration days for the float. We settled on having about three dance practices, one being at Gia and Sofia’s house, and keeping all of the decorations for the week at my house.
The first event of the week was the gym decorations for the candidate rally and the window decor. The day prior to this, almost all of our class was able to make it to help decorate our sophomore student section in the gym which looked great. A few of us celebrated with a much needed Denny’s vent session. That Monday, we got to the school early to decorate our window and finished tying for first place! This was a great way to kick off the week and encouraged us to continue putting in strong effort since you don’t always see underclassmen getting first place. I assisted with setting up the gym for the rally and dressed formally to crown and sash the candidates. The next day was Tuesday, the Night Rally and lip sync competition. The dance went really well, the class looked super coordinated in our outfits, and we placed second. The choreographers did an outstanding job of teaching our volunteers and putting together a dance that was simple to learn but still entertaining enough to place! Wednesday was the competition for Lemonade stands so we got there early to get it ready. We had a lot of props and 3D elements to it so that it would stand out. This ended up paying off because we placed first for the competition! It was such a great feeling since we put a lot of thought into how it would look and focused on small details. The Thursday after was the Powderpuff game and king and queen reveal. I was not in Powderpuff this year so I was able to assist with the risers and coronation crew for the reveal. Then Friday was the big parade! We had worked really hard on it in the past weeks (especially the night before…) and were eager to get it up and moving. Making sure all of our decorations stayed up and intact was a little worrisome but it ended up being okay. There wasn’t very much we needed to add on in the last second since we had assembled the main parts the night before. Some of us were in pirate attire to match with our island treasure hunt theme and others were in red and white for school spirit. In the float we placed third which we felt was deserved. We could have done a bit better but what was important was the major improvements we made from last year. Overall, I’m super proud of what we accomplished and how HOCO turned out for my class. We grew from our freshman year mistakes and worked together really well as a team. I’m super grateful for the bond the sophomores have formed and the support system we have built with each other. Aside from Homecoming “craziness” Ximena and I also helped out the freshmen with the Halloween Dance soon after. Freshman year coming into the leadership program can be a little difficult to adjust to so we wanted to make sure they had help in their main event of the year. I’m glad we were able to support them and make them feel a bit more assured in their process of planning. And of course, class t-shirts! They finally came in and we were able to pass them out to the students that purchased them. I’m really happy with how they turned out and am even happier to see how popular they are. Even on days that aren’t Friday or spirit days I’m seeing people wearing them. This is such a good change from freshman year to see our student body enjoying what we put out for them. For the future, we’re going to sell off our last t-shirts for this year, continue in our preparations for Winter Formal in December, and begin organizing Winterfest.
Standing Committee: The standing committee I’m a part of is the Balloon Arch Committee. In the past month, we’ve built an arch for the candidate rally and built balloon bunches and pillars for the HOCO king and queen reveal. Love my balloon arch girls.
Special Committee: The special committee I was a part of was Homecoming Coronation Committee. I was to be Makenzie’s backup if she got nominated for queen, and along with this I participated by building balloon arches, crowning and sashing the Homecoming candidates, finding court escorts, bringing records for our supplies, and helping with the risers and decor for the night of the reveal.
Mentorship Evaluation: April has been such a strong supporter of me and my class in the past month. Anytime I’ve needed guidance or advice (which was pretty often) I was able to turn to her and she was such a big help. Her being there for me means a lot and impacts me more than she could ever imagine. She’s the perfect role model of someone who leads with their heart and makes decisions for the good of her class. I’m so happy she’s my mentor in hectic times like Homecoming. I can’t wait to spend more time with her and hopefully go on a coffee run soon.
Concerns: My main concern for this program is the attitude and relationships in the class. During Homecoming especially I felt there was a lot of tension not only within the classes, but between other grade levels. I think that while the competition and banter aspect of Homecoming is expected, it got taken out of hand and was more harmful than playful. It created a lot of unnecessary drama during an already stressful week and I believe it reflected on the relationships within this program. There needs to be a more understood level of respect amongst our peers in the program and an outlook to support each other rather than judge or tear down.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes to Gia Grewal. I have so much admiration and respect for this girl. She has been working tirelessly on everything she’s been involved in. (which has been A LOT) Gia has so many powerful assets, from her constant creativity and innovation to her insightful perspective and strong sense of determination. She balances dance, academics, and her leadership life so well and it’s honestly crazy to me. In everything she does she gives 110% effort no matter what, and that’s so inspiring to see. She’s insanely dedicated and such a great person to learn from. I love being around her and am so lucky to have her a part of this program.
Change: One change I would make as of recently is the amount of focus and effort being put into our classroom environment. It feels as though people aren’t giving their full attention to listen and are doing their own thing when others are speaking to the class. Along with this, the situation with people not using work days efficiently was upsetting. We have those days for a reason and even if you don’t work on anything, the least you can do is to not be a distraction for others. Having a healthy and structured class environment is an important aspect of our program and it feels as though not everyone sees it that way.
My Impact: I tried my absolute best to be a strong leader in one of the busiest weeks of the year for our program. I showed spirit by dressing up for every day as well as participating in the Night Rally dance. I assisted with decorations by keeping all of our class items, along with the trailer, at my house and bringing the needed supplies each day for competitions. I wanted to make sure that we had a place where all of our items would be secure for us to decorate and that was close in proximity to the school for easy transport so my house worked well. But most of all, I put a lot of work into making this a good week for my class and ensuring they knew I would always be a resource for them if they were in need of assistance. I made a more conscious effort of communicating effectively and tried to stay level headed in any sign of conflict.

ASB Formal Report
Position Assessment: Since the end of Homecoming there has still been a steady amount of both individual and group work needing to be done. As for individually, I worked on assisting with Dude Be Nice week by contacting our Dudette’s family. I also was assigned to be the group leader for my CASL write up group. We all collaborated together on important points to hit in our article and then individually wrote up sections highlighting specific parts. After this, I then combined those all together and revised it to form the final version. As for the Sophomores together, we worked on prep for Winterfest and especially Winter Formal. With formal approaching so soon, we’ve been laying out plans for the day of, receiving the supplies we ordered, and maintaining steady publicity. We’ve also been working on getting our chaperones organized so we don’t have to worry about that closer to the date. Everything is on track so far and the majority of the work we need to do will be on the actual day of the dance. I’m super grateful for the officer team for sticking so close and being responsible during this hectic time of planning and figuring things out! As for Winterfest, we have solid plans for our designs (thanks to Gia and her brilliant mind) and have a PO for what we’ll need to order, now we just need to place it. We’ll continue on prepping and double checking what’d we’ve already done so we don’t miss anything with all of the approaching events and activities.
Standing Committee: The standing committee I’m in is for balloon arch. We haven’t done too much besides build some bunches and blow balloons for the Dude Be Nice Rally. We plan to do an arch for the upcoming yearbook rally.
Special Committee: The special committee I was a part of was with my CASL group. I was assigned to be group leader for our topic which was educating new staff members about our program. I helped to structure the article and revised our writings to make it flow well.
Mentorship Evaluation: I know this section we didn’t have to fill out, but I wanted to because I love April! Since Homecoming has ended we’ve both gotten a bit more of a break and a chance to see each other. She’s been taking charge in the My Intent project which I think is really cool and strong of her to do knowing how much she already has on her plate. We’ve talked about Winterfest plans and have just been helping each other in any needed matters!
Concerns: One concern that I’ve had regards the focus and future of leadership. As a class we’ve gone over this, but I believe that the misuse of work days and lack of focus reflects bigger issues within our program. With everything going on and events approaching I think that everyone has things they can be doing and working on.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes to Gaby C. I think she’s been a great addition to this program and has made a strong effort to show her involvement. I’ve seen her really liking and focusing on her job as a Historian Trainee. Along with this, she’s talked to me about how she wants to go farther into this program and try new things. I think it’s really admirable that she’s comfortable with asking questions and advice on what she can do to improve. That’s not something you see in everybody and I’m confident that she could do great things for this program! I’m excited to see what path she takes.
Change: A change I would like to make within the program regards our lack of bonding. I think we can all (including myself) work on ways to bond with each other more rather than sticking within our own class or the people we already know. I think the key to a good team that carries a high level of respect for each other starts with connection.
My Impact: I’ve had an impact recently with the Sophomores specifically, as well as the class with CASL. Within my class, I’ve tried to be on top of making sure that we stay on track and are where we need to be for everything coming up. With CASL, I structured and revised our writing to the best of my ability and wanted to ensure that what we wrote was transparent and genuine to the topic.

ASB Formal Report
Position Assessment: With the holidays approaching and Winter break coming closer there’s been much to get done. Our biggest task to accomplish was Winter Formal. We made sure to take inventory of all of our decorations and items for the dance so that we knew we had everything we would need. The morning of the dance the whole sophomore leadership team came bright and early to prep for the night's events. With the help of Mrs. Ochoa we were able to get the MUB looking nice and fabulous in a timely six and a half hours! The dance went really well, we had a great turnout and a lot of at-the-door sales. Clean up went by pretty quickly although there were some class members missing. After counting over our money we added a lot to our budget! Overall, I’m really proud of the sophomore officers. We worked so hard and took every little detail into consideration and it really paid off in the end. After Winter Formal we jumped into Warm and Fuzzy week. All that needed to be done for this was the holiday tree. The sophomore class chose our theme to be The Nightmare Before Christmas. Our supplies came in on time so all we had to do was put it together the day of. It turned out cute and was a good continuation of our ongoing theme of movie centered decor. Everything else is just prep for upcoming events like Winterfest. Our cart request form is printed and signed, we just need to physically go to Dollar Tree to ask since their carts are green. Our decorations and supplies have been ordered and are starting to arrive. The officers are planning to soon have a meeting to discuss scheduling and dates for putting our competition pieces together.
Standing Committee: The standing committee I’m in is for balloon arch. The only arch we’ve done recently was for the senior yearbook rally. The girls and I got there early in the morning to get it done and we made pretty good time.
Special Committee: The special committee I was a part of was for door decorating. My group was Nathan, Jaydin, and Abby. Nathan couldn't be there the day of but he helped prep so it was just the girls in the morning. We had to do seven doors and got it done in good time.
Mentorship Evaluation: April and I get more and more similar every single day and it honestly scares the you know what out of me. She’s become more than just my mentor this year, she’s become my role model, best friend, and comfort person. We’ve recently both been going through it a bit with stress and school but I’m honestly so grateful to be going through it with her. She makes it all seem a bit better and I’m always finding myself looking to her for guidance.
Concerns: A concern of mine as of recently is just the complaints of people in the program. While I completely understand (and participate in myself) a bit of complaining about obligations here and there, the amount I’ve heard lately is excessive. It makes me upset to hear people’s annoyance about working to help their class, which is something they signed up for. This program is a lot of work, and being a student leader can get tiring, but at the end of the day we are all committed to our job which is working towards making this school a better place. And complaining about our responsibilities won’t help in achieving that goal.
Positive Comment: My positive comment is going to have to go to Dillan Saltsman. Getting into Stanford at all is a major life accomplishment, but receiving a full ride is extremely impressive. I’m so happy for him and it’s incredibly well deserved. It makes me glad to see that all of his effort and hard work has paid off for him and I hope he’s excited to start his journey going into college next school year.
Change: My change is the same as the one from my last ASB report, which is regarding bonding. The thorns and roses activity we all did together showed me how much we needed time to bond, I felt more connected and informed about people I’m not close to in the program and I appreciated that a lot. I think that doing this more often in the future could be really beneficial.
My Impact: I’ve been trying to be conscious of who I am as a leader lately. Winter Formal really made me step into my role as president and try to handle situations with consideration and logic. As this year progresses, one thing I think I’ve been consistent in is making sure that I do everything with intention. I hope that reflects on the work I’ve been doing because more than anything I just never want to let down my class.

ASB Formal Report
Position Assessment: The start to a new year began right off the bat with Winterfest prep. The sophomore officers got to work on organizing publicity, scheduling dates for practices and decorations, and figuring out where everything would be stored. First up, was the infamous bleacher posters. This was a brand new edition so it took some seriously hard work. While we definitely could have started on this a bit earlier, it was still a giant task to take on. Emphasis on the giant, considering it stretched across my kitchen all the way to the living room. We had to improvise and work around this by breaking the poster up into fours and pulling a “divide and conquer” moment. This was definitely not my favorite event by ANY means, but I’m glad the staff and student body enjoyed it. Then we spent a good deal of time preparing for the Night Rally Dance. This was a new edition to Winterfest this year. I was a bit nervous about this considering the dances are always pretty time consuming, but it ended up being my favorite part of the week. I had Gia, Sofia, and Gaby choreograph our dance because that’s a little outside of my capabilities. We had a lot of practices on the weekends, all of which were held at Sofia and Gia’s house. Due to people dropping out, I had to take one for the team and be in the girls and the boys portion. Overall, I’m so happy with how our performance was at the Night Rally and think it went amazingly well. As always, I’m so grateful for my choreographers because not having to worry about putting together a whole routine takes a huge weight off my shoulders during such a busy week. After that, we had old reliable window decor! While it didn’t go exactly as planned, I’m still happy with how it turned out and think it looked really original. Our last event was the Shopping Cart. May I just say, the class of 2025 never disappoints in this part of the competition. Gia and Sofia picked up our cart from Dollar General then took it over to my house for decorating. There was so much effort that went into that little green cart and I’m proud of all of it. We placed second for this which was our highest ranking of the week. It was well deserved if I do say so myself. Winterfest was probably the sophomore’s most chaotic spirit week, but I think it brought us together. To be honest, we kind of went to hell and back, but at least we did it as a team. Time and time again our resourcefulness and creativity shines through which is something I’ll always appreciate. Other than that, I’ve completed my public speaking speech and have also joined the Link Crew program! On deck for the sophomores will be Senior Celebration week which is new this year.
Standing Committee: The standing committee I’m in is for balloon arch. In the month of January we haven’t made any arches but with upcoming events I’m sure we’ll have one to complete soon.
Special Committee: As for special committees. I, along with the rest of the class, have worked on my hearts for our Valentine's Day window. For future prep I signed up to help with Gallery Of The Arts and the Tribe Awards.
Mentorship Evaluation: With new mentors being chosen, I got paired up with Devin Fitzpatrick. Personally, I find it hilarious with our usual banter and bickering. Despite that, we’ve been able to talk more often in class and I find his comments during class discussions to be similar to my own. That is my newest takeaway from the mentorship partners this month, finding common ground with people you may have not expected to.
Concerns: A concern that I have is in regards to elections coming up. When it comes time to try out for new positions and jobs the class environment is always a bit more tense than usual. Things get stressful and people can get caught up in the heat of the moment. I just truly hope that as a class, we can remember we're supposed to be rooting for each other and hoping for the best, rather than making it a competition and wishing for others' failure. It’s our job in this program to create a safe environment where everyone feels supported.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes to my girl, Ximena. She’s one of the strongest people I know and she inspires me to be more confident. Ximena always tries to put her best foot forward and be helpful in any way she can. Despite anything she’s going through she shows her commitment to her priorities and is a great representation of dedication. Although I’m sad there’s a chance we won’t work as closely next year, I’m beyond proud of her for trying something new and putting herself out there in a new job position. If you see this, I’m always rooting for you babes!
Change: A change that I would like to see is more emphasis on conflict management. By this, I mean really trying to understand others and also reflect on ourselves. Each and every person in the leadership program has different forms of communication, whether that be with receiving or giving. So I think it would be extremely beneficial if we worked more on getting to understand those we closely work with and how they best handle feedback and information.
My Impact: I’ve been thinking a lot about my impact as a leader recently. (Sorry Morty, this might be a mini rant so bear with me here) In light of recent events as well as elections coming up, I’ve had to consider some things. In the midst of my thought process, I’ve come across a lot of self doubt and second guessing. In that, a few things stuck out to me that have given me some perspective on the example I want to set. Something I felt insecure about was not being a strong and secure leader all the time. I really got on myself for not always handling situations in the best ways. What I realized though, was that I’m human. I have strong emotions that are inevitably going to show themselves. I shouldn’t try to hide those feelings when I won’t even be able to anyway. Along with that, I found something that always made itself apparent was my love and passion for my class. Throughout everything, I always want the best for them and to leave a positive legacy. I truly want to leave an impact showing that although you may not always be at your best, what really matters is your love and dedication.

ASB Formal Report - The Challenge
1) I’m mainly a part of the Gift To Community committee. The purpose of this committee is to give back to people outside of our own school. To do this, we’ve decided to write letters to the incoming freshmen (current 8t graders) giving them advice and guidance to make their transition to high school more bearable. I’m going to be assisting in writing letters for them as well as presenting a slide on our progress and the details behind it.
2) This week, I completed my personal assignments like the portfolio sections and praises while also doing my committee work being the letters to 8th graders. I also assisted my class in sending due date reminders and helping with assignments they needed clarification on. I wasn’t fully in charge of anything this week but I did my best to be involved and help in any area I could. My presentation will be focusing on the Gift To Community and the work that went into it.
3) During the week of the challenge I will be in charge of holding myself accountable for completing my personal assignments that need to be completed as well as helping as much as I can with committee work. Like I’ve said before, I’m not a lead on any of the tasks but I’m always willing to step in wherever it’s needed.
4) Some pros I saw this week were that a lot of people got to step up and take on bigger roles. I think this was really beneficial because it provided more responsibilities for people to take on and allowed them the opportunity to show their leadership skills. Along with this, I think that jobs were delegated well, everyone had something to be doing and were held accountable for what they committed to.
5) Cons I saw throughout this week were mostly with people not being fully informed or focused. While I completely understand taking breaks and messing around a bit, there was a pretty consistent pattern of people not using their time efficiently and distracting others. This is a common problem that we seem to have in class generally so I think during a week as intense as the challenge we could have worked a bit better to prevent this.
6) In the formal presentation, I will be talking about the details and progress of the Gift to Community. We’re writing letters to incoming freshmen so I’m going to be filling the class in on what we’ve been able to accomplish throughout the week and where we’re going to go with continuing the task.
7) I think that having the Challenge week is beneficial in seeing how capable we are as a team of handling strong workloads. We have to fend for ourselves a bit and really test how well we can work when not given guidance from an advisor. But I do think that it can tend to be a bit too much after experiencing it for two years now. I think the balance of individual work and group work could be improved. Aside from committees and event planning we also had a lot of professional and website work to complete this week. I’m not saying we should have one or the other, but I think too much of both will result in lower quality work as a whole. Everyone has been trying to simply get the work done since there’s a heavy amount of it, instead of fully committing to doing a detailed job.
8) I believe that we’ll be extremely successful in executing this event. We have a strong and devoted leader to guide us (shoutout Mak) and a team that’s determined to make this work. I think since this week’s purpose is to test our endurance and ability everyone is extra focused on the tasks at hand.
9) For peers that don’t complete their work I think they should get a mark down on their general evaluation. It’s not justified to punish the class as a whole for the actions of a couple individuals but that also doesn’t mean it should go unnoticed. I believe that if you aren’t willing to follow through with what you commit to in this program you’re in the wrong place. It sounds harsh, but leadership is a team. As cheesy as it may sound one of our core principles is quite literally “fall and rise in unity.” When we begin to falter in our work, it has an impact on the program as a whole.
10) My favorite aspect of this week is that it’s almost a closure to the year. The events that we plan and execute are meant to honor important people in our community and reward them for the work they’ve done this year. The challenge is TRULY a challenge, but the point is that we’re trying to create something that shows people the effort they’ve put forward has been worth it. As a program, we’re here to serve others and provide them with moments of happiness in a time that can be stressful and tense. I think the challenge can be difficult to execute, but so insanely beneficial for all people in our community. I’m the most excited for the end of the year dance because it’s always filled with positive energy and joy. It’s one of our biggest final events of the year and has so much anticipation built up to it.

Claire Morris: Sophomore Class President
April-May 2023
ASB Formal Report
Position Assessment: The year is coming to an end but the Sophomores have still been nice and busy. We began April by finalizing our preparations for the Senior Spirit week that would occur two weeks post Spring Break. Prior to the break, we met with Mrs. Ochoa, our class advisor, and Morty, our ASB advisor, regarding what the week would look like. We organized things we needed to purchase, facilities we needed approved, and spirit days that we would have. It was really exciting to plan and create ideas since we haven’t had this week in about 5 years now. I think it’s a tradition we should re-welcome to our campus because the seniors seemed to really enjoy it. The Sophomore officers put together activities like senior stars, lanterns, and many interactive social media posts. At times the week was a little hectic, but that was expected since it was introduced after a while of not having it. As a whole I’m happy with how the week turned out, even though there are definitely some things that I would have wanted to do differently I think that the seniors valued the recognition. In other news, my Mock Interview unfortunately got postponed due to internet issues. My interviewer has not contacted me yet but I’ll be checking in to make sure we work something out once she does. I also participated in Love Ripon for the community. I helped out at Garden Joy and did some yard work for the day which I enjoyed a lot! Recently we also had the Modesto CADA conference. It was really fun to see all 15 members of the future junior class together. The day was nice overall and I think it gave me positive hopes for the upcoming year. To wrap up the year we’ll be having our Leadership banquet next week. Our advisor gift has been ordered so now all that needs to be done is my appreciation speech to Mrs. Ochoa on the day of the banquet! That’s all folks!
Standing Committee: The standing committee I’m a part of is the balloon crew. While we haven’t had any arches to build lately we will be constructing a huge one for College Reveal that's approaching later in May! If we don’t make one for the End of The Year Dance then this will be our final one.
Special Committee: The special committee that I was a part of was the Tribe Awards committee. I attended the event and assisted others in cleaning up the decor and trash once the ceremony was over. Regarding our challenge committees, the 8th Grade Letter committee hasn’t needed much assistance as we are nearly done.
Mentorship Evaluation: Funny story actually, due to technical difficulties Devin and I gained another mentoree! We welcomed Elias to our little duo with…partially open arms! Since the year is coming to a close we haven’t been able to do tons of bonding but we have been helping each other out. Elias was having some Weebly difficulties so I assisted and all three of us have had work seshes together in class. I’m hoping that by the end of the year we can all do something together because I wish I had more time in a mentorship with the both of them! The trio going on is a little chaotic, but memorable nonetheless.
Concerns: My biggest concern as of lately has been the upholding to commitments in the class. The year is so close to an end and I feel that some people may be taking that as a signal to check out. Trust me, I completely understand the feeling of burnout! But we all still have responsibilities that we must adhere to. If people are giving up before the year is really over it lets down those still pushing for the finish.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes to Alizeh! While we don’t work closely together, I’ve been able to see some of the work she’s been doing lately and I’m impressed to say the least. After doing an outstanding job in the play one weekend, to having to take part in going to CASL last minute the next she’s really stepped up. Her work is always done thoroughly and well and I think that in the coming years I definitely have some things to learn from her.
Change: One thing that I would like to change is the amount of gratitude that we practice within our program. I feel like we’ve fallen off in this department of leadership and it’s a really important thing to address. Praising publicly and giving recognition builds a stronger, more loving team and I feel like all of us are very stuck in whatever our own class is doing. I’d love to do more things like improving the effort into our praises or activities like thorns and roses. This way everyone has a chance to take pride in their accomplishments and we can share that joy.
My Impact: I think that my impact recently has been trying to be a leader through unknown territory. With senior spirit week there was definitely some worry since it’s been so long since the last time we had it. Mistakes were made and it got a little crazy at times but I tried to create solutions when they were needed and hold myself accountable in areas I could have improved.
